Excerpted from the volume, This catalogue has been printed on the occasion of the artist's exhibition, Oiseau Solaire, Oiseau Lunaire, tincelles at the Pierre Matisse Gallery, 41 East 57th Street, New York, on November 14th. 1967. The edition has been limited to XXV examples on vlin d'Arches la forme signed and numbered I to XXV containing 2 original engravings and L examples signed and numbered XXVI to LXXV containing one original engraving (triptych). The cover and the triptych were specially engraved by the artist and pulled on the presses of the studio Arte. The regular edition printed also on vlin d'Arches is limited to MCC examples numbered I to MCC. The colored reproductions including the jacket, the cover and the triptych are printed by Daniel Jacomet and the typography by Fequet et Baudier.

JOAN MIRO (1893-1983) Joan Miro was a Surrealist Spanish painter who created artwork of imaginative fantasy. Miro was very much against the established painting methods of the time, and is often credited with being the founder of automatic drawing. Automatic drawing is the process of allowing the hand to move randomly on the canvas, leaving the artwork to chance. His dreamlike works contain impressions of playfully distorted animal forms, twisted organic shapes, and odd geometric constructions. A contemporary of Picasso, Miro towers as one of the great masters of modern art, and is amongst the most famous artists of the 20th century.
