Notes: From the folio, 40 dessins de Picasso en marge du Buffon, 1957. Published by Henri Jonquires, diteur, Paris, with the authorization of Martin Fabiani, diteur, Paris, in collaboration with Dora Maar, Paris; printed by l'atelier de Duval, Paris, January, 1957. Excerpted from the folio (translated from French), Presented by Henri Jonquires, the album was made under his direction. The compositions, unpublished to date, were drawn on an example of the Buffon published by Martin Fabiani publisher in Paris, who obliged to authorize the reproduction of the pages of text and engraving. The example belongs to Dora Maar. The printing of the plates was done in l'atelier de Duval, Paris, and completed in January 1957, and that of the typography by the l'imprimerie Priester Frres. It was printed MMCCXXVI examples, or: CCXXVI examples on sur vlin la forme d'Arches including an engraving with the by the hand of Picasso, signed by him and printed on Robert Blanchet's press, numbered from I to CCXXVI, and MM examples on vlin du Marais numbered from CCXXVII to MMCCXXVI. In addition, hors commerce examples, numbered in Roman numerals, are reserved for the various collaborators.
PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) Spanish painter and sculptor is one of the most recognized figures of twentieth century art. During his artistic career, which lasted more than 75 years, he created thousands of works using all kinds of mediums. He changed art more profoundly than any other artist of his time. First famous for pioneering cubism, Picasso continued to develop his art with a pace and vitality comparable to the accelerated technological and cultural changes of the twentieth century. Each change embodied a radical idea, and might be said that Picasso lived several artistic lifetimes.
