The Quadrat Prints are experiments on graphic art, fine arts and litterature.
They are being printed by Steendrukkerij de Jong & Co.
The base for this publication was laid on November 15th of the year 1956 at Vence (Cote d'Azur) where Mare Chagall lithographed an illustration for Bernard Majoricks' essay, The Clocks of Chagall, on one of our stones.
The printing of this drawing in lithography and the printing of the text in offset was finished in our printing-works on December 21st of the same year.
The typographic appearance came from Otto Treumann.
This text has been composed from intertype matrices of Typefoundry 'Amsterdam': series 'De Roos'.
'I wanted to emphasize the wording of this essay by a Dutch author with a drawing', declared Chagall, when he handed the work of art, printed in this booklet, to Mr.
Brattinga Jr., 'as a respectful tribute to Her Majesty, your Queen Juliana, whose desire for peace is also mine'.
