This series reproduces works made in Royan from 30/05/1940 to 22/08/1940.

The end of the volume is composed of studies created in Paris and dated 19/02/1942 Picasso fled Paris in September 1939, because he fears bombing, and settles in Royan.

From the beginning of 1940, he rented a workshop on the 3rd floor of the villa Les Voiliers which dominates the port.

This notebook belongs to this period of work. Picasso finally returned to Paris in August 1940, Royan being forbidden to foreigners.
