Excerpted from the Peter Max Archives, The 'Umbrella Man' is one of Peter Max's most famous signature characters emerging in the early years of his Neo-Fauve color studies of the 1980s.

Max's 'Umbrella Man' is a sort of Felliniesque figure - with coat, hat and umbrella rendered in fluid brushwork and striking crimson and sapphire as he looks into a dazzling, golden horizon ahead.

Max has created the piece with kinetic, expressionistic brushwork in the most astounding colors of nature.
